She is a senior professor of Modern Russian History at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) in Moscow, having graduated from RSUH with a degree of Historian/Archivist (1997). She specializes in the sphere of the history of religious and grass-roots movements in Russia, including the history of utopianism, the communitarian movement, radical pacifism, the "Tolstoyan" movement, and Russian sectarianism.

Damian Markowski https://www.lvivcenter.org/en/residences/damian-markowski/ Fri, 06 Mar 2020 06:26:49 +0000 https://www.lvivcenter.org/?post_type=scholarship&p=2191 Damian Markowski is a doctoral student at the Institute for Twentieth Century History of the University of Warsaw, under Prof. Romuald Turkowski, and Prof. Pawel Wieczorkiewicz. He is working on a dissertation, entitled "The Sovietization of Eastern Galicia in 1944-1953." He is member of the Council for the Preservation of Memory of Battles and Martyrdom, has participated in events to commemorate civilian victims (Polish and Ukrainians) of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict of 1943-1947, and attempts to find victims of the shootings, whose names are are on the so-called Ukrainian Katyn List. He is the author of Płonące Kresy. Operacja "Burza" na ziemiach wschodnich II Rzeczypospolitej (The Burning Kresy. Operation "Tempest" in the Eastern Lands of the Second Polish Republic,Warsaw, 2008, 2011), as well as popular and scholarly arcticles on the history of Eastern Galicia, and the Carpathians.

Her doctoral research looks at narratives of identity in Wrocław, Poland, after 1945. Her Masters thesis was on "Poland, Ukraine and the myth of the "Return to Europe" after 1991: The case of Lviv", which she researched thanks to a residence grant from the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe, Lviv. Academic interests: intellectual and cultural history of Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
